Do You Care What People Think About You?

Date: 2024 Mar 15
Status: Experiment

We care because we believe people are judging, but we don't truly know their thoughts.

We know only what we assume people think about us. It is we who create mean versions of strangers and judge ourselves.

In this way you perceive people as mean, not the other way around. People's real thoughts are not even engaged.

It comes from attributing our own feelings and thoughts to others. In psychology, it is called a projection.

What better we can do is to stop thinking for others and expect all people to be welcoming and nice if they are angry at you, and there is no clear reason for it, they are probably angry at themselves, and they are coping with their own personal issues, projecting it to you.

What you left to do is to forgive the person, and to go forward.
